During the October half-term break Mr Bridge (Languages) and Mr Rispin (Maths) travelled to Winsen, a small suburb of Hamburg in Germany, as part of the school’s ongoing Erasmus+ activities. Along with a group of teachers from across Europe, they took part in a variety of visits and activities during the week with a view to boosting their knowledge of German language and culture as well as aiming to forge links with local schools in the area.
It was a tiring but very productive week of total linguistic and cultural immersion which included visits to the sprawling city of Hamburg and even a football match involving St. Pauli, the city’s famous team. They also started a link with a local grammar school there (Gymnasium Winsen) and are hoping to establish an exchange of work and ideas in the near future.
This trip will probably be the final visit abroad in what has been a busy and very fruitful two-year program involving staff from a huge variety of subject specialisms within the school and plans are now afoot for a range of activities promoting the languages and cultures of our three target countries- France, Spain and Germany- in and outside school over the coming months and years.
