In-Year’ Admissions to Year 7-11

Academic Year 2023-2024

There are currently no places available in Year Groups 7-11

Please see below information regarding In-Year Assessments

Date of birth between Sept 2008 – Aug 2012

All candidates who have not gained a successful outcome from the entrance examination or have not sat the Urmston Grammar entrance examination when making the transition from Primary to Secondary will need to be assessed to establish whether or not they meet Urmston Grammar’s admission requirements.

Suitability is determined by either the sitting of a series of tests or through an assessment of existing academic materials.  It remains the right of Urmston Grammar to decide the route for each candidate. If the outcome is successful following this process their names can be included on the waiting list.

In the event of an assessment of existing academic materials being the route determined, then the parent/carer will be notified in advance of the specific items that are to be submitted.

In the event of sitting a series of tests being the route determined, then the  parent/carer will be notified in advance of the arrangements for the testing process.  No familiarisation material is available.

One day each term-time will be allocated for an In-Year Assessment.

There are currently no places at the school and places do not become available very often.  A successful outcome from the In-Year Assessment does not guarantee that a place will be offered.  In the event of a vacancy becoming available, the waiting list will be ranked in accordance with our published oversubscription criteria.

Parents have the right to appeal against all admission decisions.

One day each term-time will be allocated for an In-Year Assessment.  All applications must be made through the Trafford Council portal on the link below;

Parents of children, who wish to enter the school after year 7, may be informed that there are no places. Under the terms of the 1998 Education Act parents have the right to appeal against this decision to an Independent Appeals Panel.

The decision of the Independent Appeals Panel will be final and binding on all parties.  Being granted an appeal hearing is no guarantee of a place being offered.

Only one appeal can be lodged each academic year.
