Old Boy, New Prizes

Former Urmston Grammar student, Nick Hilton, did not quite get the kiss he was hoping for, but he did at least receive a joyous smile from his daughter, Libby, as she collected her certificates at the GCSE Presentation evening.

The evening was a celebration of all round success, as students were presented with certificates and prizes in front of fellow students, governors, parents and teachers, all of whom had a proud claim to a share in the success.

Nick, who presented the prizes and was guest speaker on the evening, attended Urmston grammar between 1982 and 1989.   It was, in fact, Urmston Boys’ Grammar, Bradfield Road, that Nick attended for most of that time, although the boys’ and girls’ schools did amalgamate in Nick’s final year.  This had both positive and negative impacts for Nick: he gained the girlfriend who was to become his wife; but the ‘distraction’, claims Nick, meant that the grades he achieved at A level were not as good as had been predicted for him.  However, Nick has gone on to have a successful career in quantity surveying.  And numerous members of the extended Hilton family have attended Urmston Grammar over the years, including, of course, his daughter, Libby.

So, a big thank you to Nick Hilton, and congratulation to all those who collected certificates and prizes on the night.
