science week day 4

The Physics of drones!

Continuing our action-packed programme of events for British Science Week, today there was another opportunity for our Year 11 students to take part in an indoor drone-flying activity.

These sessions have provided a unique opportunity for students to explore the world of technology and aviation in a fun, hands-on way, and, of course, to navigate the drones through some tricky structures!

There was much to learn about the science behind flying: drones exemplify real examples of how physical laws, such as Newton's 3rd law, work, and demonstrate the scientific concept behind "lift".

As Head of Physics Mr Murray shares: "We're proud to say that all the students showed excellent skill and control while flying the drones, making it a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. A big thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and good sportsmanship".

Tomorrow, in a grand finale to what has been an epic UGS Science Week, we look forward to the explosive Flash Bang! show, and a natural dyes workshop in our Art department.
