science week day 3

Part 2: an afternoon of scientific investigation and exploration!
We have already reported this morning on the trebuchet activities taking place in our Design Technology department as a Science Week collaboration.
And at lunchtime today, there were not one but four opportunities for our students to participate in, including the KS3 Scientific scavenger hunt, pictured above and below:
Our students were tasked with exploring our site to find animate and inanimate examples of the various fields of science in action, and they rose to the challenge with enthusiasm!
The Timer Challenge
Led by Miss Lowe, KS3 students got the opportunity to make their very own marble run timer, and were challenged with constructing a marble run that takes a marble exactly 5 seconds to travel through, and here's Year 8 Theo undertaking the challenge:
Year 12 Dissection Workshop
As rats are omnivores and placental mammals, their body structure is very similar to that of humans, and dissections facilitate scientific explorations of the internal structure and function of basic mammalian anatomy.
Our students were also able to make comparisons between the structure of the rat and other mammals such as omnivores, carnivores and herbivores.
Also taking place in our RE department: the great debate: Science vs Religion.
Tomorrow, we look forward to Year 11 Drone flying and a further dissection workshop.
With huge thanks to all in Team Science for another great day, and watch this space for updates tomorrow!
