An Urmston Grammar team of debaters – comprising Harriet Short and Ange Boli in Year 11, and Cat David in Year 13 – competed this week in the first round of the nationwide Debating Competition – The English Speaking Union’s Mace. Speaking against the proposition that ‘Flights should be rationed to one return flight per person each year, in an attempt to tackle Climate Change’ the team spoke very convincingly. Their arguments were solid and persuasive, backed up with sound reasoning and convincing examples. All three of the team spoke very well. The team have now made it to the next regional round of the competition, proceeding with Withington Girls’ School and Manchester High for Girls.
