Urmston Grammar students continue to impress the national volleyball selectors. Four new players have succeeded in being selected for the England squad.
Emilia Mitrovic, in Year 11, has been selected for England Junior Women (U19s); Kenechi Obologu (Year 9) has been selected for England Cadet Girls (U17s); and Sonny Casserly and Will Pearson (both in Year 9) have been selected for England Cadet Boys (U17s).
Like the others, Sonny attended trials at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering in December. Having been forewarned of the date on which the selections would be announced, Sonny was anxiously
checking his phone for emails from the early hours of 23rd December. When the email finally arrived, announcing his success, Sonny felt “very happy” indeed. What a Christmas present! Apart from training three days a week in school, Sonny stays over in Kettering for weekend training once a month. He is yet to play his first full game for England, but is hopeful of playing in a tournament in Italy later in the year.
These successful students join Abi Littler, Frankie Frize, Mia Bradbury and Izzy Watson – all Urmston Grammar students who have already made it on to the national team.
