In contrast to the grisly drizzle that accompanied last year’s sports day (one of the few days of rain that was had at all last summer), this year’s event at the Etihad was blessed with… well, initially, cloud – which was a good thing, because it didn’t get too hot – but as they day went on, so it blossomed; and, as the teachers’ relay race brought the day to a climax, so the sun blistered down in all its merciless heat.
And as the sun shone, so did many of our young athletes, with no fewer than eight school records broken. And here they are:
Year 7 Boys 800 metres: Charlie Stanway, 7R (2.31 mins)
Year 7 Boys 1500 metres: Matthew Gradiner 7R (5.08 mins)
Year 8 Boys 800 metres: Josh Murray (2.30 mins)
Year 9 Boys 200 Metres: Keanu Oxley (26.01 secs)
Year 9 4 x 100 metres: 9R (52.06 secs)
Year 10 Boys 800 metres: Johnny Stock 10R (2.06 mims)
Year 10 Boys 1500 metres: Jack McNicol 10M (4.33 mins)
Rear 10 Girls 4 x 100 metres relay (1.02.02 mins).
Congratulations to you all; and, win or lose, well done to all who took part, whether running, jumping, throwing, starting, timing, serving refreshments, or simply spectating. All added to the flavour of a hugely successful and enjoyable day.
