Student Blog – 01/03/2017

We are now in the age of “alternative facts” (or ‘lies’ as everyone refers to them as) and ‘fake news’ which sounds like a great stance to take against the media and not a real concept that exists.

And with that cheery thought resonating in your mind, now to move to the news (Yay!!!).

News Story of the Week/Month: An ‘executive order’ passed by President (Donald J.) Trump has finally come into effect.

This bans all inhabitants of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the United States in a 90-day time frame.

This has provoked outrage across the globe and is the reason why New York taxi drivers in their iconic yellow cab will not be picking you up from JFK airport.

Instead, you will have to rely on the private taxi firm, Uber, to deliver you safely to your hotel room.

I do, however, think that this is the wrong stance for Uber as they have capitalised on the stance of the New York taxi drivers by arriving at the airport and taking the taxi drivers fare; which would no doubt have been cheaper than taking an Uber.

Now time for a new section: The 2017 Hall of Fame. This week’s inheritor of a place in the Hall Of Fame is French President François Hollande, for leading a verbal attack on President Trump’s ban of Muslims into America. Hollande told Trump that the US and Europe would have no relationship if the ban was to become a permanent fixture of the US.

Congratulations, Hollande. You are the first person to be inaugurated into the Hall Of Fame.
