The School Curriculum
The school timetable operates on a one week cycle consisting of 40 x 35 minute lessons each week; most lessons are organised as double periods of 1 hour and 10 minutes.
All students follow the National Curriculum in Key Stages 3 and 4 and in Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form) all students follow courses in 3 or 4 A Levels in Year 12 and the majority continue with 3 A Levels in Year 13.
The school operates with Curriculum Areas and Departments. Each individual Head of Department has a seat on the Academic Board of Urmston Grammar.
The curriculum areas are: English, Mathematics, Science(Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Modern Languages (French, German, Spanish), Humanities (Geography, History, Religious Studies), PE, Drama, Music Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology), Business Studies, Economics and Technology (Art, Computing, Design&Technology, Food Technology).
The curriculum is organised around the Key Stages of learning:
- Key Stage 3, our Lower School: Years 7, 8 & 9.
- Key Stage 4, our Upper School: Years 10 & 11 studying for GCSE qualifications.
- Key Stage 5, Our Sixth Form: Years 12 & 13 studying for Advanced level GCE quailifications
