Poetry By Heart 2017

Congratulations to Bethany Molyneux who has won the Urmston Grammar Poetry By Heart competition for the second year running. Bethany’s flawless renditions of Tennyson’s Ulysses and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop saw off stiff competition from her poetry-performing peers. Emily Greaves was her worthy runner-up while Ange Boli took the prize for the best recital from a lower school pupil.

Winner, Beth Molyneux

Thanks go to Mr Parker and Mrs Lyons, our home judges, and to to guest judges: Jonathan Ainscough – who has become a regular feature of our in-house competitions – and Tim Shortis. Tim is a part of the Poetry by Heart Senior Development team, and he took time to address the audience and participants enthusiastically explaining the vision behind PBH, while Jonathan treated the audience and participants to a stirring recital of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116.

Special thanks go to Mrs. Sandys for arranging the evening of poetry recital, and for preparing the participants so well.

Beth and Emily will now go on to represent the school in the county Poetry By Heart competition via a filmed presentation of their recitals.
