Urmston Grammar School: an introduction

INTRODUCTION:

Urmston Grammar School is a thriving 11-18 co-educational grammar school with an outstanding reputation for academic excellence in a caring community.

The school attracts and retains staff who possess a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise.  As caring professionals, our commitment to the welfare and pastoral care of our students is aimed at allowing each of our students to flourish.

The school grounds are secure and self contained, with mature trees complementing buildings that reflect both the tradition associated with Grammar School education and the vision for the future.

OfSTED described the school as "Outstanding" in the February 2006 inspection and we have recently been identified as one of the Governments' new "High Performing Specialist Colleges".

General Information

The basic aim of the school is to develop the full potential of each pupil academically, artistically, emotionally, morally, physically and socially so that he/she is able to take his/her place in society as a mature, discerning and caring adult.

The school seeks to provide opportunities and stimulation for the achievement of individual excellence; to prepare pupils for living in a complex, technological world; to help pupils to adapt to the demands of Higher Education and work; to encourage pupils in the belief that self-discipline is the best form of discipline; to develop in pupils self-respect and a concern for others in the community.

RESULTS:

The quality of student performance means that our examination results have regularly enable us to feature in the lists of most successful schools.

Our KS3 performance is in the top 5% nationally and was top in the North West of England in 2006; our GCSE level results are in the top 5% also with 60% of all grades being A* or A grades this year. Our ‘A' level scores similarly reflect an upward trend and compare well with the very best nationally.

It is worth noting that Trafford LEA came TOP nationally in 2007 GCSE results.

Our students have a high reputation in the community for their contributions to both caring in the community as well as for their enormous work with both local and international charities.
