Durham Debaters 2019

Urmston Grammar had a record 6 teams at the 2019 Durham Schools’ Debating Competition on the 30th and 31st of March this year.

Durham Schools’ Debating Competition is the largest residential schools’ debating competition in the world, presenting a unique opportunity where school pupils from all walks of life and a variety of backgrounds across the world come together to debate topical issues. After five rounds of competitive debating, the competition was narrowed down over the course of quarter-finals and semi-finals to the best four teams in the Grand Final.

Urmston Grammar School narrowly missed out on making the “cut” this year; however, our teams put in some excellent performances, achieving a number of first and second places, with our A team of Daisy Taylor (Debate Society Captain) and Matthew Audcent (Head Boy) achieving an overall top half finish.
