Following in the footsteps of Jess Tasker, Frankie Frize, Izzie Watson and Mia Bradbury, Urmston Grammar has produced yet another squad member for the England volleyball team. This time it’s Year 12 student Abi Littler.
Abi successfully trialed for the England Junior (Under 19) squad, at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering, in December. And since January she has been regularly attending at Kettering with the England camp in preparation for competing in the Cornacchia World Cup, from 19th – 22nd April, in Italy.
Having played 3-4 times every week since Year 7, in addition to coaching Urmston Grammar’s Year 7 and 8 teams, Abi’s success is born of commitment, determination and dedication, not just to her own aspirations but also in seeking to pass on her expertise to others.
And in that respect, credit has to be given to Messrs Ainsworth and Hines, PE teachers at Urmston Grammar, who have now successfully coached, encouraged and inspired five young players to become part of the national team!
